We are pleased that you are interested in the Program on Financial Mathematics at the University of Chicago. Please review the admissions links and note the following:

  • Both the GRE General Test and the GRE Math Subject Tests are required.  However, if you received your bachelor's degree prior to 2005, you are exempt from all GRE requirements.

Please consult the GRE website for testing dates, and select dates which will provide results in time for application review. Our institution code for the GRE is 1832, and our department code is 0799. Link to ETS website for GRE testing information. We do not require (and are not interested in) other exam scores, such as GMAT.

  • The TOEFL is required for foreign applicants. Exceptions are made for students who are citizens of certain English-speaking countries (Canada, UK, Australia, etc.) and for foreign students studying in English-speaking countries. Our institution code for the TOEFL is 1832, and our department code is 72.

Please visit the Office of International Affairs website for criteria: https://internationalaffairs.uchicago.edu/students/prospective/toefl.shtml

  • Three letters of recommendation are required. They are very important, so even if you have been out of college for a while you should get a recommendation from one or more of your professors. If you are working, recommendations from employers and colleagues are also important. Of course, you also need to enclose transcripts. Please include exactly one copy of each transcript and letter of recommendation as we do not need multiple copies of them.

  • Securely attach your application fee to the application.

  • Please print or type your email address (if you have one) on the front page of the application.

  • The next opportunity for admission will be for Fall 2008. In mid-November, our online application system will be reactived. Deadline for application submission is Friday, January 4, 2008.

  • U.S. citizens interested in financial aid should complete the FAFSA form. Please call 1-800-433-3243 to request this form. The code for the University of Chicago is E00377. You must apply for aid this way instead of from the application as the Program on Financial Mathematics does not provide any financial aid to students.

  • Please return all application materials in one package, including letters of recommendation to:
    Terri Rossi
    The University of Chicago
    Department of Mathematics
    Program on Financial Mathematics
    5734 S. University Avenue - Room 214
